STOPPING CHKDSK

can anyone tell me how to cancel the chkdsk at next reboot setting??

i have a failing hard drive which i am trying to remove the good files from,
before destroying the drive

i previously used chkdsk at next reboot to examine the disk & confirm drive
is dead, however, because the drive is dead, chkdsk hangs part way thru the
check and i must reboot to start again - then manually tell it not to bother
checking, just to enter windows.

i guess rebooting midway thru a chkdsk must be damaging my drive further,
and i would like to cancel the setting

any ideas appreciated :)

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

Look in the right pane for the value called BootExecute. Its contents
should read "autocheck autochk *" without the quotes. If not, then double
click BootExecute and change it.
