Here is an odd one. My drive stopped reading audio CD's. BUT if I
reinstll the driver, it will read the first audio CD no problem, but
subsequant ones, no way. IT should be noted data CD's are read no
problem, regardless.

I have a Compaq PResario 3360US laptop.
My CD ROM is a HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4040N . There is no recent driver
(I've checked LG's website). But truthfully I don't think that would
be the issue since it's worked fine for years until now.

So, any idea's?

Asked because some audio discs made by Sony include software that
gets installed to your machine to 'manage' your music.
Hit enter key too soon to include that with my other post.
Sony calls it copy protection, others do not; in some cases it breaks
your ability to play your music, or disable the drive(s) entirely.

Can you check whether a different audio player is capable of playing
these discs (Quicktime, Realplayer, Winamp, VLC, etc.) Might there be
any information in your system logs, which you can find under:

Right-click 'My Computer' on your desktop, choose 'Manage'
Find 'Event Viewer' and review the logs that are kept there for messages
related to your CD/DVD drives.

Don't ask me why, but it resumed working. Thanks for the input
though.
