I use a friends printer occasionally, so have installed the driver onto my
computer. Everytime I turn on my computer, that printer loads in the task
tray. Is there a way I can stop that without deleting the printer?
Thanks!

Generally, yes. What you see in the task tray is usually the printer monitor
module. There is usually an option in the driver drop down windows to turn
it off.
There is also a more extreme method that involves preventing the monitor
module from loading. Since this involves using information you did not
bother to mention, I'll pass on this method for now.

Start-Settings-Printers and Faxes-(Your Printer)-properties
generally gets you to the printer driver main window. Beyond that, there are
differences between mfrs and models.

Yeah - that's the thing. The driver window doesn't offer any sort of option
to load or not load the printer on start up. (It's an HP 5700 series)
