Stop presentations opening automatically in Viewer

sMy laptop runs PowerPoint 2003. Whenever I try to open a presentation, even
if it's NOT saved in PowerPoint Show format, it always opens automatically in
Viewer. The only way I can open a presentation for editing etc. is to open
PowerPoint first and then load from within it. I've even tried uninstalling
Viewer, but opening a presentation from a folder still seems to find Viewer
from somewhere.
What can I do to stop the automatic loading in Viewer of all PowerPoint
formats please?
