Hi Folks,
I hope someone can help me with my computer problem.
This morning when I booted my WinXP(HE) machine it got as
far as the Windows screen and failed to reach the Welcome
screen.
Instead, a STOP message appeared:
STOP C0000218 { Registry file Failure }
The system cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRootsystem32\config\SOFTWARE
it is corrupt\absent or not writable.
The system reboots and this repeats itself.
Win XP is OEM pre-installed(they no longer exist), and I
never received a WinXP CD.
I have read the KB articles and visited
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/win_xp_stop.htm
amongst other (MS-MVP) sites. Unfortunately I do not have
SySTEM REstore
I have available to me:
Factory reset/restore disc (image), that I do not wish
to use, unless absolutely necessary !
This computer which also has WinXP (HE) on it etc.!
All assistance is greatly appreciated.

I have read various Knowledge Base articles, Kellys
Korner and Auma.org site and . They all seem to suggest a
System
sed to boot up.
got to the part where it reads the registry and
displayed a STOP message which I believe was 218.
