Friends

I have Windows 2000 Adv. Server with SP3 with the following software installed on it
SQL2000 Serve
Network Associates 4.
Veritas NetBackup 3.4G

Recently this server is experience the stop error with the follwoing error event in the event viewer

The Compaq System Management Driver has detected that the system encountered an NT bugcheck prior to this boot. The bugcheck data was: STOP: 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

Microsoft suggested to verify Antivirus softwares(Symantec), which is not the case on my system
Updated the patch for Veritas ot5man.sys file

Still I see the problem

Any ideas

Hi Vani,

Typically a Stop 7f is stack corruption due to either a filter driver or
even hardware. The second parameter 0x00000008 usually points to hardware.
You could also check to see if there is an update available for Network
Associates 4.5. SP4 for Windows 2000 does include an updated NTFS.SYS which
is more forgiving to stack space corruption, so you could investigate
upgrading to SP4 on your server. The new NTFS.SYS looks at the stack before
a create and if stack space is low it spawns a new thread, this can make a
big difference when several filter drivers are in play and there is stack
space contention.

Best Regards,
Eric
