For some time have been getting occassional blue screen
errors on starting (signing in as any user). The message
reads: STOP: 0x00000012
(0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000)
TRAP_CAUSE_UNKNOWN. (This started many W2K updates ago so
it's nothing new.)
I recover by shutting down and restarting PC several times
until it runs. CLUNKY!
Have read knowledgebase article 315263 on reading minidump
files and have downloaded debugging tools, but decided I
do not have the technical competence to understand the
read of the minidumps.
QUESTION: How might I get more "friendly" guidance as to
what is faithfully recorded everytime problem occurs so I
can fix it?
I have a Dell Dimension 8100 P4 1.4GHz with 128MB RDRAM
running W2KPRO svce pack 4+ (latest updates beyond SP4).
The paging file is set to clear on shutdown and to vary in
size between 192MB and 384MB as needed on the 40GB HD.
Will shortly add 512MB RDRAM. If there is something wrong
with current memory now is the time to find out so I can
pull it and leave the PC with the new 512 instead of
keeping the 128 for a total of 640.
Thanks.
