Diablo527

I turn on the computer and I get a message stating that
Windows (Win XP) failed to load properly. It gives me 5
options to start:
1. Safe Mode
2. Safe Mode with Networking
3. Safe Mode with Command Prompt
4. Last Known Operational Setting that Worked
5. Start Windows Normally

I choose either option and it brings me to a blue screen
which gives me the following error code:
***STOP 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0X8055C490,
0XF8954490,0XF8954190)
From here, the machine just hangs and it doesn't allow me
to do anything, even though the first time it did this,
it let me go in on Safe Mode and I chose to go to an
earlier Restore Point, when it restarted itself, nothing
happened beyond the blue error screen. If anyone is
having this problem or if anyone might have a resolution
to this issue, please let me know. This is driving me
off the walls. I've tried entering the error code on the
knowledge base and nothing comes back. Thanks in advance.

You can do a repair install if you have a retail XP CD. Follow these steps:

Start the operating system from the CD-ROM, (you may have to go into BIOS
and set the CD drive as the first boot device.)

When the computer starts from the CD, the system checks your hardware

and then prompts you to select one of the following options:

To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

Press ENTER.

Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.

A box lists your current Windows XP installation, and then the system

prompts you to select one of the following options:

To repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R.

To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing, press
ESC.

Press R to start the automatic repair process. After repairing Windows XP,

you will probably need re-download all updates, starting with SP1. You can
go to the Windows site and download the XP Rollup 1 package, which will make
the reinstalling of the updates
much easier and quicker.

The repair installation should leave all your data and settings intact.
