Hello MS Forums. Thanks Jupitor Jones for helping me
with my last problem a few months ago...

I have started my own computer retail store..over 1 year
old...I wanted to start making 'economy' cheapo system to
give people with limited resources another pc option...

I have been having nothing but trouble...Here are the
specs:

Lucky Star K7V266A (cant even find lucky stars website)
AMD Athlon XP 1700
128MB PC2100 Brand: Nanya
20GB MDT Harddrive (MDT=Maxtor whitelabel)
64MB PcChips Video Card SiS chipset
Floppy
CD drive

I have gone through 3 hard drives...that now have errors
on them....will not format....Maxtor utility gives error
code. I have check the cables....switched video cards
with working ones....switched power supply...switched
memory.....
Now im on a good working hard drive...tested on my
regular price machines....I go to install on the cheapo
system...and I get one of the usual stop messages ive
been getting...Here it is:

STOP ERROR: 0x-7E(0xC-5, 0x80819AFB, 0xF9E814C8,
0xF9E811C8)
The "-" is in place of many zeros.

Please help...I need to know which piece of hardware it
is so I never deal with it again....
And if anyone knows where I can get Lucky Star bios
updates and drivers....please send me link. Thank you

No one can tell you exactly what piece of hardware is the problem. It
may not even be the actual hardware. It may be a driver. These errors
can be caused by numerous things. If I had to guess I would say its
probably the MB or video card. Is all the hardware for your "cheapo"
systems listed on microsofts HCL? You can also run the "upgrade advisor".

Hey thanks for responding. Well I have not check to see
if the parts I am using are certified...I assume they are
not going to list Lucky Star boards...But I have swapped
parts with those that I know work. I have swapped the
Power supply, the memory, and the video card....
When I have tried to lookup the codes, I thought that the
actual values given will direct me to what the problem
is.....

I dont even think Steve Ballmer can tell you what piece of hardware
threw back your code. In many cases though Windows will list the driver
file below the stop error. If this applies to you, try to determine what
piece of hardware uses the file.

It is by not a quick and easy task but with a correctly configured debugger
you can find out what is causing the problems. You will need a second system
and a NULL modem cable. This site should get you pointed in the right
direction with getting everything setup.
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/ddk/debugging

Here is an article on how to debug setup.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;123750

Once everything is setup and the "test" system breaks into the debugger you
should be able to get information about what driver caused the break. From
that you can tell (hopefully) what hardware was the cause.

The quicker method though is to swap half the hardware in the machine for
other components and see if it goes away. Keep doing that till you narrow
down the offending piece.
