Hi.

I receive a stop error 0x0000007B ( 0xF789E524,0XC0000034,0x00000000,
0x00000000) when windows boots up.
It reaches the windows logo and Microsoft statement (when its loading, right
before the logon screen).

I've been looking around for a solution, no success. I don't like to format
and reconfigure/install everything again so I have a theoretical solution,
but first let me explain what I was doing right before this happened.

I had some issues with a read-only file, so I booted into safe mode to
remove it, it was not a system file, used by windows. 3rd party software. But
the file was in system32, so when i rebooted I left the explorer window open,
when normal was booted up the system32 windows also opened. As I had it
configured. It seems that I accidentally clicked and copied some files in the
system32 directory. That should not cause a problem as far as I know but it
asked to overwrite a file, and I clicked cancel. so now there is a copy from
one dir withing system32 to another dir within system32, of course I do not
know which one or how many but my guess is 2 or 3 directories where copied.
This is probably the issue and I'm not certain how to resolve this, I can't
repair windows with the windows cd, and the recovery console seems to be
lacking options.

Before I rebooted I was changing a startup option nvmx something, which
popped up as an error whenever I boot. Not sure if this could be the problem.

So, what could the problem be?

My solution would be to copy all files required to keep all installed
applications and settings for windows and just format and keep the partition
structure, is this possible? In the recovery console it appears I can only
copy one file at a time, so using some kind of livecd to mount the harddrive
and then copy it to an external drive would be possible.

It's a laptop, so I don't know if I can add that drive to my desktop?

Normally, problems are inspiring to solve and the experience and know-how
gained is worth more than gold for me, but I use this laptop for school and
projects, and its very important to me.

Thanks.

Is your Windows XP CD the same SP as the SP update you are cvurrently
running?

What is your computer make and model?

Hi Gerry.

The computer make and model is a Zepto Znote 6314W.

The windows CD I use is the one that came with the laptop, including SP2 and
I run SP3, I have another one with slipstreamed SP3 but it doesn't allow me
to get to the recovery console nor does it allow me to repair the current
windows installation.

I have read Morgan che's post there, but the DELL solution has not worked
and I'm unable to repair using the Windows CD.

What is important for me is to keep all settings and applications. My
partition table looks like this:
C: (windows)
D: (I forgot, spotify probably)
E: (chat client and swat4(game))
F: <-- projects and tools/programs
(G: = dvd-drive)
If I format c: the rest goes along with it, i think. So need to backup
everything.

You could try System File Checker in conjuction with your slip streamed
CD.

The normal way to restore missing or damaged files in the system32
folder is to use the System File Checker tool. Try Start, Run, type "sfc
/scannow" without quotes and hit Enter.

Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System
File Checker (Sfc.exe)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310747

A common problem with running System Files Checker is that it requires a
CD with all the system drivers for what is currently installed. This
means that if the system has been updated from SP1 to SP2 or from SP2 to
SP3 the user no longer has a current CD. The solution is to carry out a
process known as slipstreaming to put the original and the update
together on a single CD, which can then be used. I personally have never
attempted this but that would be the way forward.

You could try using System Restore to a date before it got hosed. Or restore
the hard drive from a recent backup, if you have one.

Hi.

I will slipstream SP3 and try the SFC. Can this be run in the recovery
console, perhaps I will be able to repair?

I cannot use the System Restore.

If things don't work out I would like to know which files I can use to
restore settings ?

An update.

I managed to get the repair option, i used it and but after the gui setup
rebooted and I got the same problem. I did get some questions if I wanted to
install unsigned drivers which I only did for graphic card. I'm going to redo
this process and install all the unsigned. Hopefully this helps.

The partition table is intact except for the D:(Music/Spotify) and G:(DVD
drive). This can be fixed easily.

I hope this helps.
