stop error after XP service pack installation

Hi -- MS prompted me to update XP by downloading and
installing a service pack, which I did. Upon reboot after
installation, I get a blue screen with the following
message:

STOP: c 000021a {FatalSystemError} The windows logon
process system process terminated tunexpectedly with a
status of 0x00000080 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system
has been shut down.

Any ideas on how I fix this? Safe mode, last known good
configuration, etc. do not seem to help. Thanks --Gene

Thanks very much -- I'll try that at home this evening.

It's the winlogon.exe or csrss.exe that has gone corrupt.
You can either do a in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of
Windows XP or use the recovery console to try and replace
those 2 files.
