stop emails from auto opening

does anyone know how to stop emails from opening automatically? I only want
them to show as open if I double click or open them by choice.
 
Turn off auto-preview. How that's done may depend upon your version of
Outlook. View > Autopreview.

View>Reading Pane>Off
 
"Show as open" as in the icon showing as read or actually disabling
previewing the emails?
Assuming the first;
Tools-> Options-> tab Advanced-> button Reading Pane...-> disable the first
2 options
