Hi,

I have a small XP network not on a domain. I've setup a couple of shared
folders and given some users full access, others read only.

My problem is that I want the read-only user to be able to see and read the
documents in the shared folder but I don't want them to be able to copy those
documents to anywhere else on either the local machine or the network.

I can't find a way to do this using either share permissions or NTFS
permissions. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Karl

Anyone who can read, can copy.

That is not possible. If they can read via a share they can copy if they can
write to somewhere else. There are solutions that can prevent copy using
Windows Rights Management but it requires the use of at least a Certificate
Authority server and compatible applications and still can not stop all
copying for a determined user who could resort to photographing monitor
screen with a digital camera. --- Steve
