I deleted the everyone and guest user. Then put ownership
of the entire C: drive to the administrator and one other
user. I also checked the box allowing child objects to
inherit this setting. I then tried to reboot and got the
following error:

stop: c000021a (fatal system error) 0xc0000022 The system
manager initialization...

I can't boot up in safe mode. I ran repair from the cd.
And tried to go back to a previous profile. All has failed.

HELP! :)

Patrick

Try this command from which ever mode you're able to logon to...

"Secedit /configure /db C:\winnt\temp\temp.mdb /Cfg
c:\winnt\inf\defltdc.inf /overwrite"

this will reset the default permissions for AD and Windows 2000.

Dear Curtis,

I have a similar problem. I am a novice user. I know
what I did was DUMB (right after I hit enter I knew I'd
screwed up).

I have a 3 computer lan at home running Windows 2000. On
computer #1 I logged onto the C: drive of computer #2. I
clicked on properties of Drive C: and changed the security
settings. I set EVERYONE to DENY. I then closed the
window.

A little later I tried to re-boot computer #2. I am
unable to boot and get the blue screen and Fatal Error
message.

I have tried to repair Windows 2000 with the W2000 CD
using the Emergency Repair process.

I have also created ERD diskettes and this does not work.
I get an NTLDR is missing error when trying to boot from
these diskettes.

None of this works.

I am able to access the Recovery Console but don't know
what to do. I did try and enter your command sequence
below at the C:\winnt folder in the Recovery Console but
was not able to make this work.

Please HELP!

Thank you,

Tom

If it's a simple hard drive (not a RAID set) you might be able to move the
hard drive into a different computer where you've got an Windows 2000 (or XP
or other NTFS capable OS) already installed and reset the permissions.

The problem computer is a laptop (DELL C600). I have a
different model DELL laptop running Win 2000. But, I
don't think I can swap the hard drive.

Isn't there any other solution? I assume I could reinstall
Windows 2000 but that is a LAST resort!

HELP!

Hello Tom,
There may be some third party tools that will allow you to boot to a floppy
and manage the NTFS partition. I'd suggest checking with sysinternals.com.
Good luck,
