DEBTHINKPAD

Hi. Sadly, I have a "Windows Blue Screen of Death" error. The screen says:
STOP: 0X000000D1 (0x08AE1750, 0x00000002 x 0x00000000 x 0xBFDFC284)
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I have Windows XP Pro on an A30 (ThinkPad).

I would deeply appreciate advice as to the best way to continue.
Thanks,
Deb

The driver for you CD burner might be bad.
Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the CD drive device,
Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers
again automatically.

Thank you, Mark, but I can not get past the blue screen without performing
some error recovery procedure. (In other words, I can not access "start/run"
yet.) I think I have to get to DOS somehow?
Appreciate the reply,
Deb

What is your Windows XP CD as it is described on the face of the CD?

What is your computer make and model? How old is it?

Have you made any hardware or software changes shortly before the
problem first arose? Memory perhaps?

Hope this helps.

I cannot figure out why you think the problem is a CD driver? Driver yes
but why CD? Which driver do you have in mind?

Would changing the boot sequence in the BIOS enable access?

My first guess was based on the 'current FAQ question' appearing here
lately. Not less or equal errors are often caused by CD drivers. Getting the
CD out of the boot order might be an interesting experiment.

Thank you, Mark. Before I proceed, I made a serious boo-boo. I am looking at
XP now, but the system that's locked up is a Win 2000 OS. I assume the
procedure is similar, but realize it may not be identical. My search through
the support DB yielded over 200 replies, but I'll keep looking.
Best wishes,
Deb

Disconnect all peripheral hardware, except keyboard mouse and monitor.
Having done that can you access in safe mode?

A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

Does the BSOD Error occur in safe mode?

Can you please try to answer some of the questions in my previous post.

Gerry, thank you for all of your suggestions and information. A few bits of
info and a correction:
I am on a ThinkPad A30, about 2 1/2 years old to me but not new when I got
it. I am on Win 2000 Pro, however, NOT XP (my error in stating so). There
were no peripherals attached and none are attached now. The only changes made
are updates to McAfee software suite, which are automatic.

I have proceeded past the STOP error by booting in safe mode and restoring
the active desktop. However my system continues to freeze (I created a
spearate post today, which you also kindly replied to) independent of
application. I can only proceeed by cutting power. On reboot the system says
it must check the disk, which so far has proceeded w/o problem, and then I
restore the active desktop. I am afraid to attempt any application such as
Word or email. (I'm borrowing my Dad's system at the moment.)

I hope this provides a clearer picture.
Thanks,
Deb

When you get a freeze it would best best not to cut power as it could
make your problem worse. Just wait and see how long it takes to resolve.

I await your follow up in the other thread. I have read your first more
detailed post there.
