For the first time in 3 years my win2K is acting up. I get
the above stop error and it displays
KMODE_Exception_Not_Handled.

I tried start with last configuration and it does not help.

Can someone help please?

Without more specific information, all we can tell is that the problem is
most likely a driver or bad hardware. Has any hardware or drivers been
changed lately?

Tim,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, my mouse was not working
properly so I updated the mouse driver and that has caused
this issue. You are correct. Now I need to boot up windows
to uninstall the driver. I have tried the following things:

1. Boot in safe mode -- It boot up and comes to the "press
CTRL ALT DEL screen and then I can't go further. The
keyboad seems to be non functional...
2. press F8 and load last good configuration --it gives me
the option and I select the profile and after it restarts
gives me the Stop error again.
3. I have used the companion diskette but that does not
help me...nor does the recovery CD. The recovery CD does
give me a option to fuill recover system but that will
erase all information...which does not help me.

I think...All I need to do is to be able to get to a stage
where I can go to device manager and uninstall the mouse
driver insatalled. It seems that the CD provided with the
mouse has the older version of driver that is not win2K. I
would not expect the driver to load but hten...oh well..

Can you help?

Thanks,

Mahendra

You might try the Recovery Console command"
Disable
Disables a Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 system service or a device
driver. The disable command is only available when you are using the
Windows 2000 Recovery Console, which can be started from the Windows
2000 Setup program.

disable {service_name] | [device_driver_name}

Of course you would need to know the "name". That may be displayed
on the STOP BSOD screen. For example mouclass.sys has name:
mouclass. "i8042prt" also supports KEYB so....

Have you already simply disconnected the pointing device and powered
up the system?

YMMV

Hi,

Yes, I have tried to disconnect the mouse and restart but
it does not help.

The problem is that it does not complete the start up
process in Safe mode either. When it comes to the safe
mode screeen that needs me to press cntrl-ALT-DEl and log
in the laptop keyboard is non functional and hence I
cannot log in in safe mode to do anything. Below is the
display I get for the stop error:

Stop: 0x0000001E (0xC00000050, 0x8041F868, 0x000000,
0x00000030)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
***Address 8041F868base at 80400000, DataStamp 3ee6c002-
ntoskrnl.exe

I would appreciate if anyone can help!

Thanks, Mahendra

Since this is a laptop, it may require special drivers for the built-in
keyboard. I would recommend attaching a standard PS\2 keyboard to the PS\2
slot on the machine and see if it will let you log in in safe mode.

I was assuming a direct problem with a specific driver (your new
mouse driver), but that may not be the case. "1E" is often a driver
but can also be hardware. Could it be that your laptop's keyboard
and or pointing device have simply died? You said you were having
trouble and updated the driver. You could check the BIOS Setup to
see if the internal devices might be disabled while using externally
connected Keyb/Mouse. Thin, but maybe.

Any other (like new RAM!) hardware changes?
Thanks, Mahendra
