Hi My internet explorer has been hijacked by a website, that proclaimes my
computer has a virus even though I have the lasted anti-visrus software and
have scan the pc also. But every time I lauch IE, it loads the site's home
address with also a popup box with eth esame warning, on the site it lists
various anti-virus software that can be purchased to get rid of the virus.
I tried changing the home address in the options menu, but it will revert to
this site.
The only way I can open a site is to load a favourite site than navigate
away from it.

It has also dropped an icon in my system tray which also tells me about my
infected system. the site name is spywarequake.com.

Hi my name is Kaja. Here is an idea that may resolve your issue. First off
I use Windows Defender Beta for potential pop ups and browser hackings. It
works for me so far. It's a free download from microsoft.com. As for your
issue with IE 6 you may want to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7. This should
give you a clean copy of Internet Explorer. You can download it at
microsoft.com. It has some added security features such as a pop up blocker
and phising filter. The look is different than Ie 6 but I like it. Let me
know if this helps.

Do NOT -- repeat NOT -- attempt to upgrade software on an infected system.
Not only will this not correct the problem, it's likely to introduce new
problems that will only complicate the situation. This is especially true
of beat software, which is incompletely tested and frequently lacking in
functionality.

Furthermore, using a popup blocker at this point may obscure some of the
symptoms, but will do nothing to fix the problem. It's like dipping the
thermometer in cool water after taking your temperature so you won't have
a fever.

You need to get rid of the infestation and install defenders to prevent
becoming reinfected. Instructions on removing malware are posted to this
group roughly seven times a day. The following is quoted from a message
posted today by Don Varneu.

These symptoms could indicate the presence of malware.
