Hello,

when I try to connect my camera CANON A20 to my WIN2000 SP4 PC,
I get the "famous" error : "STISVC.exe has generated errorsand will be
closed. You need to restart the application."

Until a few weeks or months ago, I did not have that error.

As a result, I cannot connect anymore my camera to my PC.

Now I notice that this is an old problem ; I see a number of people
mentioning this on the internet. But... is there any solution ??

Thank you

A shot in the dark but applying this patch might help.

Thanks for the advice, Dave,
but this patch is only for WIN2000 SP1, and I have SP4.

Best regards,

Another shot in the dark but you might try stopping the 'Still Image'
service. From a command prompt;

net stop stisvc

Then re-run the setup for your scanner/ camera stuff.

Hello,

after searching in my old notes,

I noticed that I already had the STISVC problem, after I had used a registry
cleaner "easy cleaner". That was about half a year ago. I undid some
cleaning actions and all went well again.

Then I thought I had found a reliable registry cleaner "regseeker". I have
"cleaned " in several steps and never had a problem. But I did not use my
camera in the last three months. Between Xmas and New Year I must have done
some cleaning action that refers to the Canon Twain Driver .

I undid these actions and ... it works again !!

It seems to me that my system needs a parameter "Camerapath", referring to a
path Winnt\Twain_32\Canon_DC. But the latter folder does not exist,
therefore it seems safe to remove that registry entry according to registry
cleaner.
I fact this looks incredible to me...

I will be much more careful using registry cleaners in the future.

Yes that would explain it. These "cleaners" almost always do more damage
than good.
