Good morning.

I'm installing a Western Digital drive in an XP Pro box.
(OS is XP Pro). Control panel recognizes the HD. Using
management, rescanning using Diskmanagement/cmd line it
still doesn't see the hard drive.

I've replaced the ribbon.

I have only 1 CD, 1 Floppy, and 1 HD (C) in the computer.
This will be the 4th peripheral.

Anyone have any idea why XP DISK MANAGEMENT can't see the
hard drive (even after rescan) but Device Manager CAN see
it?

PS - All the drivers are up to date.

Thanks

Alan R.
..

Is it formatted?

It doesn't need to be formatted for Disk Management to see it as Disk
Management is one of the tools you use to create partitions and format the
drive.

Never mind!

I found that the drive was defective. Returned it, stuck
in a new one (8mb cache in lieu of 2mb cache) and it
worked fine.

Thanks for the response tho.

Hi

Right click My Computer/manage/disk managemen
Double click disk management, can you see Disk 0 and Disk 1 in the lower right pane
If No, post back how you connected the 2nd harddisk
If yes, right click on Disk 1 and select initialize drive, click apply and OK
Right click on the drive volume and assign a drive letter, then format and partition the drive

Hope it helps

Pete
