still slow

My system slowed down so much that I could not even get to
the internet. After running anti spyware I found 37
downloads. Still slow I was told to delete the
Quarantined items. Done, Still slow!
Does anyone have ideas as to what is happening?
I have reset the internet defaults.

Slow can be cause by a large number of issues, including physical ones--say,
a defective processor fan.

Have you scanned in Safe mode?

How does the system do when running in Safe mode--is it still slow?

Another option to try is to disconnect from the Internet, and run MSCONFIG
and check the box for a diagnostic startup, and see how the machine does in
that mode.

An antivirus scan with current definitions is a great idea, as well.
