I was hoping that I wouldn't have to run other progs to combat spyware, but
Adaware SE still produces 30-40 "critical items" each week. What does this
mean?

It means that it's a beta, and ASE isn't.
Also, are these "critical items" cookies? If so, this version of the
beta doesn't scan for cookies.

It means that Ad-aware classes cookies as "critical items."
