still possible to use MyDVD, 4.0, to burn a DVD?

I'm just now trying out software received with my computer several years ago
to make my first home video. I've edited with Windows Movie Maker and saved
it as a DV-AVI file. But when I insert a blank DVD to burn the movie the
message from MyDVD is, "There is no media inside the recording device. Please
insert the media." I read that Sonic no longer supports this older version
of MyDVD, but as a novice I hate to invest in an upgrade, especially since I
suspect this is a no-brainer for someone with some experience. Any advice
appreciated.

Did you try another disc? It could simply be a bad disc. Also since you
haven't used it I assume then that you haven't burned a DVD in those
"several years" either meaning it is possible that the drive is bad.
Things I would try in order:

1) Try another disc to see if maybe it is a bad disc. (What brand are you
using?)
2) Check your manual, many older DVD burners only work with either -R or +R
discs but not both.
3) Make sure CD Recording is enabled. Open "My computer" and right click the
DVD burning drive then click Properties. Under the CD Recording tab make
sure the box next to "Enable CD Recording on this drive" is checked.
4) Check the manufacturers website to see if there is an updated firmware
download available.
5) Use Windows Explorer and a blank CDR and try dragging some files to the
burning drive then burn those files to CD to see if that works. If none of
these solve the problem then unfortunately it is probably a bad drive.
