thanks Glen, tried all those fixes, no luck.
so posting again.
this thing just drops frames randomly, last time i tried it , 1/2 way
through it stopped the frames, continued the music and only reacted to the
mouse clicking through each pictture.

I am running a basic presentattion with music backgrounds and vacation
pictures. All jpgs,
Works perfect on sons 1.2gig xp machine, works on win 98 mach at work with
350mhz and works with my laptop 333mhz win98.
BUT!!!! on my 1gig xp machine music plays, and slides tend not to show,
neverthe same ones, and sometimes it takes a slide and holds it for longer
then timed. all the time music playing (thus throwing off all the timing)

tried shutting all programs down, and cleaned system of spyware that may pop
up, (we are on a dsl network always connected) tried shuuting zone labs off
even.
continues to drop frames at random.

please any help would be great, need to transfer this to video and my system
is only one with tv out card.

Scott,

The less you give powerpoint to do the better in my book.

Try lowering the quality of your music (is it mp3 wav midi?)
Try converting stereo to mono (that's half the filesize and half as much for
powerpoint to process/pass along)

Are the holiday pictures straight from a digital camera or scans?
What is the resolution / pixel count.
See this for more details on reducing the pixel count

all are scans, music is digital quality.
yes I tried the acceleration fix, it helped a little but still had 1 or 2
slides dissapear.
just upsets me that the biggest computer in the hoouse has problems with it
and 2 laptops and my sons desk topis fine with it.

Echo,

You got it spot on. That was my most thorough reply ever <vbg>.

Scott, did you do *all* of these?
---------------

First, you should make sure you have the latest version of DirectX. That
may not help your current problem, but it is a wise security move. WARNING:
If you have Windows 2000, you MUST have all Service Patches for Win2K in
place before doing this (Courtesy of Austin Myers).

Second, you should try adjusting hardware acceleration:

http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm

Third, update your video drivers. They are the interface between you program
and what you see:

http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00029.htm

Also, try the general troubleshooting material:

"Don't use PowerPoint for anything serious until you've done this":
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00034.htm

If that doesn't solve the problem, at least you have narrowed down the
possibilities Please get back to us so we can progress further.

Glen probably suggested those, but we seem to have become disconnected
from the original thread, so I don't know for sure what "all those
fixes" you tried are. <g>

Yeah, it's frustrating when that happens.

With digital quality music, I'd suspect the file sizes are quite large.
You might be able to knock a bit off those...

But I'd try the stuff on the links TAJ gave you. If you optimize the
images, that will probably help.
