Still no crosspost control in message filtering?

I was eager to try out the newsreader in Vista mail to see if cross post
handling had finally been addressed (via message handling rules?) after all
these years! Is it possible that MS still chose to ignore this? I found one
new "View" option called "Show only useful conversations" and tried it on
this group. Imagine my surprise when it then cleared the group and told me
there were NO messages due to a view being applied! :)

Why on earth did nothing change?

Please someone tell me I'm being stupid and overlooking something here!! Is
there a way to do this by further defining what constitutes a "useful
conversation?"

Joe, let's face it: Windows Mail is not a substitute for a full-featured
Usenet client like Forte's Agent Newsreader, which does have cross-post
management.

Also, don't you know "after all these years" how to create your OWN Views in
Microsoft's newsreader?

But don't be so negative. At least Microsoft Mail's quick-and-dirty Usenet
capabilities now insert the standard "-- " before your signature. And you
can set it to do either "top-posting", or "bottom-posting". This required a
third-party utility under previous versions of the Outlook Express
newsreader. And it downloads headers and bodies MUCH quicker than
previously.

So contrary to your protestations, a few IMPORTANT things DID change with
Microsoft's newest email client. And let's face it: It is free with the OS,
whereas you would have to pay $39 for Forte's latest offering.

I certainly realize it may seem a niggling point but why run off for third
party software when something such as this is already open and running?
Using views really doesn't relieve the tedium of the initial and ongoing
filter adjustments in the way that , as you said third party examples do,
allowing simple point and click crosspost handling would. Last I looked even
Agent didn't allow one to simply say, if it's cross posted don't bother with
it at all. But this is not the place for discussion of third party
alternatives in any case.
