Still no answer for DVD/CD drives disappearing

I have looked everywhere, read every post in all applicable newsgroups, and I
noticed that over the last 3 months there are still no solutions for the
drives disappearing.
Vista is a wonderful program, but unfortunately like many others, we may
have to resort to starting over with Windows XP (which also seems to pose a
problem)
I cannot tell you how much I like Vista. If it is going to be available to
the public in December, will there be a solution for this?

The same question has been asked and answered multiple times over the past
few months in these newsgroups.

fix that has worked for a cd/dvd drive that disappears.

Have you read this and tried it?

I have tried to do the second method and that did not work. I am going to
try replacing the cable, and then maybe try the first method of modifying the
registry. I am not very familiar with that, so I will leave it as a last
resort. If it worked, then why are there still so many people looking for a
solution? Thanks for your help. I can use it.
