Still can't connect to any web sites. I did change my
HOSTS file to OLDHOSTS, but that did nothing. Still
getting a screen that tells me it cannot fin a server;
DNS error. I also looked up (on my daughter's computer)
the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 181599--however, it
states that this is just for Windows 95 and 98. I am
running XP, Explorer 6.0 and AOL 7.0.

At the risk of sounding totally stupid (I know nothing
about the software on my computer), would it be easier
for me to just remove Internet Explorer and add it back
onto the computer? What other options do I have with XP
that don't require a degree in computer science? Any
help would be greatly appreciated. I need to us the
Internet and cannot spend another two days trying to find
out what is wrong.

You said that you have a file named HOSTS (No extension)
Did you create that file?
If not some parasite or web acceletators will do it and
cause havoc.

Remove all the parasites on your computer.
Delete all the spywares and bad BHOs from your system.
