Hi,
I have a laptop xp ho at home and a desktop xp pro at work I want to connect to. I am the only one at my office, so I don't have an administrator to ask.
I have tried everything everybody was so kind to help me with
I enabled remote asccess to the host, figured out my IP address, set the firewall and port 3389 but if I want to connect I still get this message: : The client cannot connect to the remote computer. Remote connection might not be enabled or computer might be too busy to accept new connections…

when it is time to enter the computer name, browse for another computer there is none to choose from. Aren,t I supposed to get my office computer in that scrollbar and if, how

I also get this message if I use the log on window.: Verifying username and password â€
Error 691 access was denied because the username and /or password was invalid on the domain.

Please don't give up on me and respond in not too technical terms as I am a first timer..

Thank

Actually, the drop down box contains list of server you have recently
connected. From your posting, I can't tell how your home/work machine
connect to internet or what kind of firewall you have but if you can
describe it, I might be able to help.

As for the error 691, I don't really understand what you mean ".. if I use
the log on window..", can you be more specific, for example, you sit in
front of work computer and try to logon?

Hi,
I am also facing the same problem. At home I am using
cable connection to connect to Internet. I am using
Motorola Cable modem and D-link wireless router(I.e.,
through 802.11b connection). And also could you please
guide me which port I have to use to connect Remote
Desktop. is it 80 or 3389? where and how to set to a
particular port?

Thanks in advance for your help.

There isn't much on the client side unless you have one of the router that
can limit outgoing connection :-)

Anyway, in general, if the machine you try to connect is behind
firewall/NAT, you will need to open port 3389 for Terminal Services
(assuming you haven't change it) and forward it to the right machine and on
the client side, you will need to enter firewall/NAT's INTERNET IP address.

Hope this help.

I have dial up at home and dsl at the office. I log off the office one and let it running. I don't know how to get permission to log on remotely, is it just with the name and password I use on both comps. I set the firewall to remote desktop...
I don't know enough to even give you more details, cause I don't know what it takes to remote properly ( obviously) so I you could ask me more specific questions I can try to answer them better.
Thank
