Dear All,

.... I need an expert!

Current config:
Windows 2000 Pro machine acting as a file server for a few
word documents.
Couple of Win98r2 Clients opening word docs located on the
server.

Problem:

Intermittently, word cannot open docs or takes several
minutes to open and close doc. If this is going to happen,
when the user clicks once on the file the file properties
are not shown and the computer goes away for a while at
100% cpu usage.
Reboot the Win98 machine and it works OK for a while.

I've tried everything I can think of including:
Changing win98 and win2000 network cards
Changinf Hard Drives
Reinstall Win2000 several times
Ensuring all machines can ping each other
Replacing all network cables
Changed oportunistic locking

Next stage will be throw the computers out the window &
use a typewriter??

Pleeeeeze somebody help before I lose my sanity!

Kind Regards Duncan

Duncan,

I just noticed:

the w98 is on IP 192.168.0.1
the W2K is on IP 192.168.1.2
That's why it's not working.
The first 3 octets should be the same for all machines.
