Thanks ever so much for your quick responses and Doug Knox link was exactly what I was looking for :-
However, I am now faced with another problem and that being

When I get to the point where it asks me where I want to put the OS I choose other directory and type E:\Windows98 .... it then comes up with "The drive letter or directory is invalid". It also comes up with the error SU0343

I have tried all different types of directory names but to no avail, and the drive letter is definately E: ..... I even went and changed that to another letter hoping it would make a difference!!

My ideas are slowly running out ..... surely it should not be this difficult

P.S All my drives are set to FAT32 so there is no conflict there and the Disk Manager tells me all systems are fine from that en

Any assistance appreciate

Kind regard

if your booting from the cd... try booting from a floppy
disk and typing E:\ <Press Enter> if you get an invalid
drive error try D:\ <Press Enter> and then C:\ <Press
Enter>, if it works type DIR to get a directory listing
and see if it is the correct drive.... also rearranging
the drive letters in XP has no effect in ms-dos, (say you
have 3 partitions, and you make first one C:, 2nd one E:
and 3rd one D:) in ms-dos it will show up as (1st = C:,
2nd = D: and 3rd = E:) ms dos sort drive letters by
primary partition then secondary partition and then
extended partition... then by physical drives, so 1st
drive primary partition C:, 2nd drive primary partition
D:, 1st drive, secondary partition E:, 2nd drive
secondary partition F:.. etc
