Ok, I spent ALL DAY yesterday downloading the patch,
installing the patch, downloading a 3rd party firewall,
installing it, scanning, cleaning and everything else
that I have been advised to do. I am still receiving
infected email on both email accounts (AOL and Yahoo)!
Why are Norton and Zone Alarm not stopping them? Wasn't
the patch supposed to close the hole allowing these
things through? I am very frustrated, and afraid to
allow the kids on the computer for fear that they will
open something they shouldn't. If not for the size of
the file showing up on Yahoo, I would not have known the
first one was a problem as it was from an email address I
know. What do I need to do to make this STOP?! By the
way, I updated Norton... ??????????

What version of norton are you running if it is 2000 or
above make sure you have the email scanning turned on.
Also you might want to boot into safe mode and run the
virus removal tool.

Thanks for the reminder, but it is on. I have Norton
2003 and it is running.

Last week when the virus first became widespread I was
working in another program and heard an odd sound. When
I minimized the window there was an alert box from Norton
that it had found and destroyed the blaster worm. This
week's virus seems to have mutated to a point where it
keeps coming through. I updated my virus definitions
yesterday and ran full system scan. I also manually
scanned and deleted anything suspicious. This am when I
logged on I had 8 new infected emails between the two
programs.

I guess the good news from all of my installing yesterday
is I have yet to see a "messenger service" box since
installing the Zone Alarm!

Thanks for your suggestion. What else you got?!

If you are referring to Blaster, it does not spread via email. You are
receiving other viruses, and lately they seem to be mutating and propagating
faster than the antivirus vendors can manage. The Blaster patch has no
effect on most if not all email viruses.

Greetings --

Neither a firewall nor an antivirus application can prevent your
receiving virus-laden emails, because neither can control what other
people and computers send to you. The antivirus application, however,
can normally prevent these emails from doing any damage, as long as
you keep the virus definition files up-to-date. You might want to
consider adding MailWasher to your toolset. This product allows you
to preview, and consequently delete or accept, emails before you
download them from the mail server.
