Hi,

My windows mailbox is doing better after I got rid of McAfee and Norton. But
there is still a problem. I still cannot receive or send any emails. Do you
have a simple solution? Thanks ahead for your help.

Any error message? If so, copy it and paste into a reply here.

Two of the following error messages were sent:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.charter.net ',
Server: 'pop.charter.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

and...

Subject 'New Microsoft Office Word Document (with problem)', Account:
'pop.charter.net', Server: 'smtp.charter.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '250 SIZE 15728640', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 250,
Error Number: 0x800CCC7D

Thanks in advance, Gary, for your help.

Regarding the first error: I don't believe Charter supports port 995 or SSL.
Untick the SSL option, and change the incoming port to 110.

Regarding the second error: The outgoing server is indicating that the
attachment is too large (15.7MB). Is there any way you can make the
Word document smaller?

You might not have gotten all of Norton, which could be causing problems.

I don't know about McAfee, but you might not have gotten all of it too.

Try unchecking - This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

And thank you for taking the trouble to report back.
In itself such action helps others by confirming fixes.

Glad you got it working!
It usually works when you set it up like your ISP says. :-)

Thanks Gary. You know, I just found out my ISP can't help me anymore because
I use Vista. They were sued by Microsoft last year for giving free customer
service to their customers, so they can't help me anymore. That really put me
in a bind, until I found you guys. It's not really their fault either, so you
are my only help now unless I want to pay for help... Thanks again.

Just tell your ISP you are using Outlook Express with Windows XP.
Email account settings are identical for Windows Mail and
Outlook Express.

Okay, that will help considerably. Thanks, Gary!
