still cannot play muisic

when i try to play a music cd i get C00D1197 but the error seems unrelated to
my problem.....i can use explorer to view the contents of the cd but i can
only see the 44 byte top file (.CDA) i downloaded win amp but i cant play the
cd.......so off i go to purchas a new cd rom drive (mitsumi) still cant play
music cd`s i`ve tryed downloading different codecs ....nothing.my network
settings are correct.i disabled security and virus protection but my system
still wont play any music from purchased cd`s i.m running XP PRO SP2.and
media player 10 are there some settings in windows i am missing............
or should i withdraw my fist from the hard drive and try again?i knew i
should have kept the crappy old dell dimension
