Still cannot access winxp pro share!!

Dan

We have 20 computers on a 2000 server logging into a
domain. 1 computer is win98 and all others are winxp
pro. I have shared the C drive on one of the xp machines
(machine is named "Accounting") where our QuickBooks data
resides and I want the win98 machine to be able to access
that C drive share and the data file located on it. All
of the other xp machines are able to access the share, but
the win98 machine is not.

The win98 can access other shares on the server and xp
machines, and it can see the Accounting machine on the
network, but when you click on the accounting machine it
says there is no access.

All firewalls are disabled and both the winn98 user and
the winxp user have full admin rights at the server. I
also have the guest account enabled and on the Accounting
machine and permissions are set to Everyone w/full
read/write.

Why can the win98 not access the share? And can anyone
provide me a step-by-step way to resolve this problem? I
want the win98 machine to be able to do its normal login
and then have access to the xp share, I do not want the
win98 machine to have to enter a password to access the
share as the QuickBooks programs needs to be able to write
to the data file at will.

Also, while it would be nice to know how to set up user
based access to the xp machine, for these purposes I'd be
happy to use simple file sharing or to leave the guest
account enabled, but none of that is working. Whatever is
the simplest for now.

Thanks.

PS: If someone can help and wants to discuss off list I'd
be willing to pay for their services.

You either need to log on to the 98 PC with a user account that exists on
the XP file server OR add the appropriate entries to the DACL on the share.

But why is the win98 not able to access the share after
enabling the guest account? Enabling the guest account
works fine on other P2P networks where I'm accessing a
win2000 station from a win98 station. And... if the xp
ACL is already set for Everyone to access and it still
doesn't allow Everyone, why would it allow another used if
it were setup in ACL?

Also, when I did try and setup a user on the xp with the
same name/domain as the win98 user, the xp says it can't
set it up because of some "trust account" problem. I'm
setting the new user as Tom (same as the win98 system) and
entering in the domain they both are members of. Still
not working...

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks..

Is the Accounting machine formatted in NTFS while the other machines ar
formatted in FAT32? I don't believe that Win9x can read the NTFS fil
system
