Hello all:

I was wondering if anyone can help me out with a problem i am having.
I have a Memorex CDRW/DVD 6424-4 drive and I keep getting errors when
I try to burn something.

Here is the error I get with Nero.

Memorex CDRW/DVD 6424-4
Invalid write state

Memorex CDRW/DVD 6424-4
Could not perform EndTrack

Here are the solutions i have tried so far with no luck.

1. Different burning programs
2. Different files
3. Drive cleaner
4. Different CD Media

This problem only seems to happen when writing. Reading CD's and DVD's
seem to have no problem. I'm suck and wondering if anyone has any
idea's. Thx

So how long can you expect a CD-RW drive to last? Months? Years?

Steve

Well the warranty is about 1 year usually and it seems like many
writers with moderate to heavy use last about 1.5 years or longer.
You do see some people who have them die before then but I think its
relatively rare. Hard to say with the recent batch of free after
rebate Benqs and other cheapo makes. I think they still have a one
year warranty though I have no idea how their warranty service is
like.

You meet people whove had writers for years though -3-4 years.

Depends on how hard its used. I see some people who claim to use it
hours and hours a day churning out disks. Also the heat in your case
and how dusty and smokey and grimey the environment may make a
difference.

I have a 2x2x6 Philips that is 5 years old and still works perfectly.
Most of the failed ones were produced some 2 years ago and most carry HP
or Acer (Benq) brand. In fact I remember that there were production
problems with the laser diodes at that time and even plain CD and DVD
readers of that era have a much higher failure rate than any others.

....Just a wild guuess: is there enough SPACE available on the
media for the end-track (closing the CD/DVD). Check the settings
and try to burn something that should easely fit onto the
CD/DVD...

Hope it helps..
