Sticky Trackball Optical...

I just bought a MS Tackball Optical. It works otherwise
fine but the ball is fysically very "sticky", which makes
small movements very difficult. It seems like if the
material is too soft... Is there a solution?? (The ball
and everything is very clean, so that's not the problem)

The Trackball Optical, like all trackballs and mechanical
mice, can get dirt into the space which can block proper
movement.
Hold the mouse securely in your right hand and clap your
hands together, inertia will pop the ball into the palm of
your left hand.
Then look very carefully in the recess and you'll see
several small metal studs and some other recesses. Dust,
dirt and greasy skin cells collect in those places and
interfere with the reading of the cursor movement. Use
toothpick to remove the gunk and press the clean ball back
in the space.
If you installed the Intellipoint software, you will fine
sensitivity controls when you open the application (right
click the icon)

Our hands sweat. Sweat coats the trackball ball and the metal studs scrapes
off the sweat and deposits in around the internal sensors/studs. You need
to clean trackballs more often than regular ball mice.

Carefully pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a tissue. Remove the
trackball ball and rub it with the moistened tissue. Then prepare another
tissue and clean the internal sensor area. Replace the ball and test.

Everybody has oil in their skin and everybody sheds skin.

Understood it all, you're not the only person who reads
answers here. Did you see my comments about software?

| What part of "The ball and everything is very clean..."

Thanks for many replies. The device is as clean as it can
get (it is new (=1 day)& cleaned, just to be sure). It is
not the sensitivity or the drivers, those are OK. Maybe
there are replacement balls, which are harder?? (or should
I just give the device to my neighbour kid (5 years).

Take it back for exchange, sounds at this point that it is
defective.
