Looking for freeware stickie/postit software - did search and found ATNotes
and Stickies.

But I want to put notes in specific folders (and have notes close/reappear
when folder closes/reopens).

All the programs I've found put all stickies only on the desktop - correct ?

If anybody knows a program that would allow me to put notes in specific
folders - would appreciate it. Thanks !

Dang, that's a pretty good idea! I don't think any of the responses thus
far will do what you want though.

I used to do something similar by having "tool tip" pop ups for selected
folders. There is an option in Folder Options, View tab to enable pop ups
but it has been so long ago that I used them that I don't remember how to
enter text for them.

Another less handy option is a program named AnnotSX. It is a shell
extension that adds a sheet to any file/folder properties sheet for notes.
Works fine but you have to right click the file/folder to get at your notes.

Free, has uninstall

You might want to take a look at Rainbow Folders. I use this every day to
assign colors to my business folders.
http://www.rainbowfolders.k7.pl/

Their description says the following:
With RF you can add an optional text that will 'pop up' when the cursour
stops above the folder's icon for a while. With this you can e.g. warn other
computer user with hint like 'Don't delete me, I'm a very important folder'
:))).

The only program I'm aware of which does this specifically is commercial, Whiz
Folders I think it's called. There is a time-limited demo available though, so
you could try it for free.

_That_ is very cool.

Another alternative would be to use the program ``Idea!'' by Sycon in Germany.

They've a limited free version w/ an ad / splash screen which (AISTR) has to be
dismissed, but it allows one to link in files and folders in with one's notes,
though some of the other programs allow this as well.
