I MS office 2000 installed on Windows 2000. Every time I
open an Excel file the cell pointer gets stuck and it
expands over many cells and does not want to let go. I
have the old fashioned mouse (not the MS wheel mouse). I
have attempted reinstalling MS Office which did not work.
I even uninstalled MS Office and began with a new
installation which did not work. I also checked to ensure
that my mouse drivers were updated which they are. Can
anyone help?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

I have had a similar problem. Occasionally when opening
an Excel document the highlight/select tool will get
stuck and will just highlight everything. I am unable to
click anywhere else, click on another document or close
the document. I need to hit ctrl alt del and end task.
Once I hit end task, I receive a message, Cannot Quit
Excel, I hit okay, it says this application it not
responding, I hit end now and then it ends the
application. When I try to go back into any Excel
worksheet it does the same thing again. I have to restart
my computer in order to be able to access any Excel
documents. This happened previously and we upgraded
office to Office 3000. It seemed okay for a while but has
popped up again. any information on how to fix this
would be great. thanks!

Lynette,

Yes, I went through the same steps to exit the
application. The only exception is that the problem
started with Excel 2000.

Hi. I've had various problems with a sticky mouse similar
to yours, but not only in Excel 97. I got an updated
driver for it, which didn't help. Then contemplated
getting a new one. First, I took the thing apart and
cleaned the rolling ball in the mouse with a little
alcohol & cotton swab and the gears with a Qtip, a
toothpick & some alcohol. In my case, it solved the
problem because some debris somehow got wrapped around the
gears.

I'll try this later today to see if it works.
Nonetheless, it seems odd that so many people have or had
this problem and Microsoft has nothing posted on the web
about it.

Thanks all!

I am experiencing the same problem and would be most
interested if you find a solution to the problem.

I've followed all suggestions but I am still having the
same problem. Any other assistance/pointers?

Thanks,
Chandra

I've also had this problem. I originally had it with an
Office 2000 version of Excel. I recently removed Office
200 and then loaded Office 2003. I still have the
problem. Any help would be appreciated!

In looking through similar postings and talking with our
IT group alot of users having this problem seem to be
using the Dell Latitude D600 laptop. There has been some
speculation that it may be they way the touchpad and
mouse works. It was suggested to upgrade drivers, my IT
group has tried that on other laptops and that has not
worked consistently. I am curious to find out if you
Chandra and Bob are using a Dell D600 laptop as well.

Bingo. D600...upgraded to the latest Alps driver from Dell's website
and no more sticky mouse. Thank you.

Craig

We are having same problem, but we are not using Dell
Laptops, Custom built desktops, latest and greatest,
running offcie xp sp3, any ideas,???

Is it using a touchpad? The Dells have an Alps TouchPad,
just wondering if the touchpad is the same.
