1/8" Stereo to Dual Phono (RCA) Plug

Including the term "Y cable" would confuse matters, since
"Y cable" normally implies connecting one device, to two
separate devices. The above cable is one to one, for connecting
two different connector standards. So it isn't really
a case for the term "Y".

RCA plugs are mono, so when you see two of them on a cable
like that, one is "Left" and the other is "Right". The color
scheme might be chosen to match what is seen on a VCR or LCD TV.
So you'll know which is left and which is right, by the white
or red coloring of the RCA plug.

Left = white, Right = red

I've played around with connecting my computer to the TV, and my
results weren't very good. I suspect one of the newer standards,
like HDMI, might work better, if the TV had one of those.
HDMI has the ability to carry audio on the same cable, so you
can get an all-in-one solution that way. But I don't know
if that will reach 25ft. The analog interface you're using, will
probably still give you some kind of picture and sound, at
that distance. But digital could be so much nicer, if it
would reach.

(Comments on HDMI cable length...)

The best picture I've got with an external device, was
an old Nintendo :-) The computer sucked by comparison.
The colors were all wrong.

At 25 feet, you'll be lucky if it works properly. HDMI /should/ work, if
you have it, but a decent quality cable that length won't be cheap.

My computer to tv hdmi cable is 35 feet & works very well for video;
also the optical cable is also 35 feet (thereabouts) to the AVR.
The tv is in the living room & the computer is in the bedroom; the
cable outlet is offset at 1+ foot between rooms & I didn't want to
do the fishing to connect the 2 in a rented apt, aside from the fact
I wasn't able to find a combo plate of coax, optical & hdmi wall plate.

One thing is that to get a good video text is to set the sharpness of
the tv to 0. Read somewhere recently that if the tv sharpness was at
the greater than 0, the tv would do extra processing for whatever I
forgot; my tv video was set at less than 0 & when I changed the
sharpness to 0, the text legibility is like viewing the stuff on
my monitor.

Regarding the video quality, ymv as I only use the computer-tv
viewing for videos on the internet; no idea if the quality is
just as good viewing a dvd-video from the computer.

Oh, I got my cables from monoprice.com where the prices are much less
than local even with the s/h & tax for me; there is are other places
that would "sell for less" than local, especially if the locals don't
have the cable lengths or adapters.
