Ok Avast hit me with a trojan alert earlier today. Nothing to do with steam, however Avast decided I should scan all files anyway - I did

Turns out upon scanning my secondary drives used for backups etc Avast informed me all my Steam game backup folder zip files were corrupt?!!!!

WHHHAAAT, WHY?

Can Avast not work out what they are because they are compressed files?

Or are the simply corrupt?

Any ideas?

TIA

Regardless of what AV I like, it doesnt help solve the issue of what is suggesting Mucks

It is not giving me any False positives or sugetting anything about Steam being a Trojan or anything alikes. Simply suggesting backed up game files are corrupted

yeah, of course, it's not the AV program, they dunno one game backup from another ... silly me.

So, why don't you ask Steam then, you seem to trust Avast ...

Oh dear!

Never mind

I'll have a look elsewhere for other suggestions might get less redicule

I have more luck with Avast than I have other AV in the past

TXD, now now, I thought by now you'd know Mucks' warped sense of humour ;)

But basically, wot Reef said.

I never ever thought I'd use a Microsoft product for AV protection but after lots of research (read: Google, then reading opinions and experiences) I have now been using MSE for quite some time, coupla years I'd guess.

MSE has found a few nasties for me, as has Malwarebytes, the other anti-nasty software I use (also free).

As for Avast, general consensus of opinion is that it's not the best but I've used it in the past.

EDIT: Oh, your saved games problem, I overlooked that. In my opinion ignore anything Avast is throwing up, if they pass MSE's scan ok then quit worrying.

Not entirely sure Sense of humour is an adequate enough description

Yeah will be running MSE later on when I watch a movie. Cheers pal
