Is stdole.dll included as part of the Office 2007 PIA installer or the
VSTO 2005 SE runtime installer?

If I'm creating a VSTO 2005 SE runtime for Outlook 2007, do I need to
include stdole.dll as part of my installer and either use it as a
private assembly or install it in the GAC?

If I have to install it, which way is the right way to install it?
private assembly versus shared assembly (GAC)?

Any official MS PIA should be installed in the GAC.

Stdole is included in the redistributable Office 2007 PIA package, if that's
installed you have stdole (and extensibility) installed already. The VSTO
runtime package does not include either stdole or extensibility.

If the PIA's were installed as part of the Office installation (that occurs
if the Framework was already installed when Office 2007 was installed) then
you also have both stdole and extensibility installed.

The Office 2003 redistributable PIA installer does not include either stdole
or extensibility. In that case the extensibility installation MSI needs to
be installed separately, which installs stdole for you as part of the
extensibility install.

extensibility install.

Is that the same as the VSTO 2005 SE runtime?

Or, do I need to install yet another download from Microsoft?

Or, do I just include the stdole.dll file as a private assembly as
part of my own installer?

No, it's not the same. The VSTO runtime is just that. A runtime package for
VSTO. It has nothing to do with either stdole or with extensibility.

I told you what you need, the redistributable Office 2007 PIA package.

As I also said you install an official PIA such as stdole in the GAC, it's
not a private assembly.

You can ignore my answers and keep asking the same questions over and over
but the answers will be the same regardless of what you want.

Thanks, I am already installing the Office 2007 PIA .msi, and so I'm
in good shape.

I've got everything in good shape now. I really appreciate the help
and your fantastic book.
