I am trying to install CATALYST 6.6 but the installation fails and gives me
the message:

"Try to set up video driver with standard VGA before running set-up"

Everything has been updated and I don't know what to do next.

I am trying to install Catalyst because apparently it is needed to run
Google "Earth"

I would appreciate any suggestions.

The message might mean running Windows using vga.sys that
came with XP instead of that proprietary video drivers of
the graphics card. This is usually a standard requirement
when changing video drivers, typically from one manufacture
of video card to a different one.

a) Download the catalyst.
<https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293>

b) Download the ati uninstaller
<https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293>

c) Execute the uninstaller.
Reboot, cancel when it tries to install the ATI driver.
Delete C:\ATI

d) Execute the catalyst.
Reboot as needed, but give the drivers a chance to test etc.
Further information is available on the ATI pages.
