What is the difference between...
[standard tcp/ip]...
and...
[hp standard tcp/ip]...
when setting up a local printer port?
Any insight will be appreciated.
Thanks, Tracey

Standard TCP/IP port is the one shipped in Win2k and XP. HP also has a TCP
port monitor that needs to be installed from a CD shipped with a printer or
download from HP.

So with Standard TCP/IP port, any bugs in the product we fix. With HP
Standard TCP/IP port, HP fixes any bugs.

Other than that, they are the same unless this is for a cluster, then stay
with the MS version.

Just to add my own experience of the HP TCP/IP port:
I recently bought a PSC2510 All-in-One device and installed it with admin
account as a hard-wired network printer on Win2k (SP2 fwiw). All worked
fine.
As non-admin user I could scan OK but couldn't print, getting event ID 45
("Document failed to print due to GDI/Driver error in rendering").
I fixed it by changing the printer port config to use the printers IP
address instead of the auto-configured hostname (which has its name added to
system32\drivers\etc\hosts). It also prints OK if I create and use a
standard TCP/IP port specifying the same hostname as in the HP-installed
port.
I suspect HP have some work to do here. ;-)
