Still will not do a live or manual update to new
signatures. I did yet another add/remove programs.
Manually deleted the folder downloaded and installed and
my signatures stay 5687 which were included in the program
download.
This is about the 5th time reinstalling and still it never
updates the signatures.
I am W2K SP4 and another computer on my router also W2K
SP4 does get the updates.
To get new signatures I always have to delete the old ones
first. I am in the admin group and obviously have full
control over the installation folder.
What next?????

Please download again. Save the download to your desktop--
do not choose Run
on the download dialog.
Once it is downloaded, double click on it to install.

I already said I've installed reinstalled removed manually
deleted it 5 times already. It never updates after an
installation.

Well I went ahead and did it just to make it an even 6
times installing. Yes same issue will not update. Still
5687.

Can we compare permissions on c:\program files\microsoft antispyware (or
wherever it is installed?)

Right click that folder in explorer , choose properties, and click on the
security tab. Then click on the "advanced" button.

I see something like:
Authenticated Users Read & Execute, this folder, subfolders, and files
Server Operatiors Modify this folder, subfolders, and
files
Administrators Full Control this folder subfolders and
files
SYSTEM Full Control this folder, subfolders, and
files
CREATOR OWNER Full Control subfolders and files only

Permissions on Program Files as follows
admin-Full-folder sub and files
owner-full-sub and files
power users-full-folder sub and files
system-full-folder sub files
user-same
everyone-same

Hmm - what about Microsoft Antispyware subdirectory, in particular?

I realize that your described Program Files permissions should be greater
than the ones I posted, but I'd like to be sure what they are on the
specific folder.

Remind me what version of Windows you are running? Yours differ somewhat
from mine, and I wonder why?
