I constantly have to uncheck the Status Toolbar in Win XP Pro/IE6. How can I
stop the Status toolbar from coming back? Is there a registry hack?

Thanks, CMA

Thanks, Don, for a very useful link from which I was able to extract the
necessary information to solve the problem.
Interestingly, the final summary of the solution did not help:
For anyone else suffering this problem I have put all steps together:

Remove following reg. Subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\StreamM
RU
-and-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams

Then follow these steps:

1) With only one Internet Explorer window open, click View > make sure
"Status Bar" is UNchecked
2) Right-click on IE's Toolbar and select: "Lock the Toolbar"
3) Now hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button (upper right) (This
forces IE to retain the settings)
4) Open Windows Explorer, click View, UNcheck "Status Bar"
5) Right-click on Explorer's Toolbar and select: "Lock the Toolbar"
6) Click Tools > Folder Options > View tab
7) Click the "Apply to all folders" button.
8 ) Hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button (upper right)

Reboot!

However, this did solve the problem:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Show_StatusBar"="no"
"Show_URLinStatusBar"="no"

Cheers, CMA

As long as the answer was in there *somewhere* ;-)
