I want the Status Bar to stick, (preferably, permanently) in IE6 (WinXP
Home). I know I can close the box on shift for it to stay there but doing
this successively is tiresome. Maybe it's because I'm opening new windows
all the time and forget.

Is there a registry hack which can do this for me please?

Greg

You will find the setting for IE's status bar under the following registry
key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

...Show_StatusBar

Set its value to "yes" to display or "no" to hide.

Dear Rob

I have just checked that out. The value is set to "yes" but when I open a
new browser window it isn't displayed. I have to select. Any ideas?

Thanks

Greg

i have this same problem. The status bar shows sometimes, but not always and
the registry is set to show it always.
(i hate microsoft)
Does anyone know how to make it behave?

yss

Gregory,
If your status bar disappears when opening a new IE 6 browser window:

1) With (only one) IE open, click View, select: Status Bar
2) Right-click on IE's Toolbar and select: "Lock the Toolbar"
3) Hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button (upper right)

Verify that these Registry entries exist:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Show_StatusBar"="yes"
"Show_URLinStatusBar"="yes"

[Exception]
In some cases the "Remember last window size" info becomes corrupted in the
Registry.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Window_Placement"=

Right-click on "Window_Placement" and select: Delete
Note: Remember to Export the key before editing.

Some have had luck with this procedure:

Close all other windows.
Open Windows Explorer.
Make sure that the status bar is showing.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | View and click the option to make all folders
like this one.
Reboot.

If that doesn't do it, here's a more thorough method from Mike Burgess:

If your status bar disappears when opening a new IE 6 browser window:

1) With (only one) IE open, click View, select: Status Bar
2) Right-click on IE's Toolbar and select: "Lock the Toolbar"
3) Hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button (upper right)
4) Open Windows Explorer, click View, select: Status Bar
5) Right-click on Explorer's Toolbar and select: "Lock the Toolbar"
6) Click Tools | Folder Options | View tab
7) Click the "Apply to all folders" button.
8) Hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button (upper right)
9) Open IE to any page, right-click on a link and select: "Open in New
Window"
10)Verify that these Registry entries exist:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
"Show_StatusBar"="yes"
"Show_URLinStatusBar"="yes"
