Static yes....DHCP no

I have an HP notebook with Windows XP pro.... if I set it
with a staic IP all is well.... but if I try to use DHCP
(which I need to use) it will not obtain an IP
address...any thoughts????

You haven't mentioned if you have a router. You will need
a router or a server setup to assign addressing to each pc
on a network.
