In the case of Data Miners I've never seen any spyware
protections detect this sort of addition. They are always
caught by the AV protection. In my case the free Avast AV
catches each and every one of them. Data miners are
usually added to the OS by "unsavoury" sites like porn
sites or warez sites. A good AV program will catch them.
