how do i delete resident programs (startups) in windows XP? in windows 98 i
did it from system tools, but that doesn't seem to work in XP. i can see
what resides in memory, but cant get rid of any of the programs. i need to
destroy some spyware (Purity Scan) that have installed stealthily and is
flooding my computer with advertisning.

Hi, Øivind.

Start with msconfig. (Start | Run | msconfig.exe)

Or, just drag'n'drop the unwanted filenames OUT of your Startup folder.
(Start | All programs | Startup)

But it sounds like you need something more capable, such as AdAware or
SpyBot to clean out the adware and spyware on your computer.
