When my PC boots it hangs when it supposed to read the
IDE items. So, I press the restart button and it boots
fine. It does this every morning. Any ideas on how to fix
this?
I'm using XP Home.

It could be a bad motor in the drive or more likely a weak
power supply.

It might be the harddrive is taking longer to get up to speed (spin-up
time), and the bootup is trying to access the drive before it's ready. Some
newer motherboard BIOS allow a time-delay before trying to access the boot
harddrive. If not available on the present BIOS, try downloading a newer
version and installing into your MB flash BIOS memory.
This situation more frequently occurs when trying to boot from a CD. Very
frustrating.
