Is there a relatively simple method of getting a new program to open
automatically each time the computer starts up?

Depends on what you're trying to start.
Perhaps consider putting the program shortcut into the All Programs/StartUp
folder

Right click on the Start button,
Select Explore all users
See the Start Menu folder, open that and you'll see the Programs folder.
Open the Programs Folder if not opened and see the Startup folder

Place your shortcut there in the Startup folder.

Start>Run Type: "msconfig" > Enter

Navigate to the Start up Tab and Uncheck the Not Required items from the
list.
Save and Reboot.
Click the 'Do not display this again' box when you re-boot.

Done !

do that for no reason.

1. That will do nothing for adding items to the startup folder.

2. Using msconfig to permanently stop a service or program is a misuse
of the program and will lead to problems down the line. Msconfig is a
tool and only a tool, to figure out what program or service is causing
the problem. Then you correct the problem properly, not try to bandaid
it with msconfig.

yes, isimply n XP go to start, run and type "msconfig" you will see many
tabs one says startup. Select "normal startup. " Hit apply and OK then all
your programs will startup at startup. Let me know if this resolves your
problem.

Kaja

Sorry, this is completely false. It will not start "all your
programs," but only the small subset of them that are listed there.
David almost certainly wants to start a program or programs *not*
listed there. Read TaurArian's message for the correct answer to the
question.
